Fellows will rotate at the Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia and Einstein Medical Center Montgomery. They will also do away rotations with our affiliates at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Einstein Medical Centers have an extremely busy inpatient services which allows for a broad exposure to a wide variety of diseases and diverse patient population that ensures a well-rounded learning experience.

While training at Einstein fellows will work on the hematology inpatient service and outpatient service, medical oncology inpatient service and outpatient service while having protected research time. Fellows will also have experience with bone marrow/stem cell transplant, hemophilia blood clotting disorders, acute leukemia experience, transfusion medicine, and work with blood bank.

Hematology Oncology Fellows training at Einstein have access to a bone marrow biopsy skills trainer which is the first of its kind patient stimulator. This healthcare stimulator trainer provides a realistic feel when puncturing the skin surface, entering the iliac crest bone and extracting simulated bone marrow samples. Our fellows are able to practice their skills needed to perform posterior iliac crest bone marrow biopsy.

Research Training

During the Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, fellows investigate opportunities for clinical research program within Einstein Healthcare Network. In order to attain dual board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), fellows are required to do research and scholarly activity during their fellowship.

Fellows will also use the 6500-square-foot Simulation and Learning Center, which has six types of training: human patient simulators, simulated clinical environments, virtual procedure stations, certification courses, and team training.

Since the establishment of our Fellowship in 2014 we have had poster presentations in 4 national meetings (ASCO 2018 and 2019, SABC 2018, AACR 2018).

Over USD $300,000 in grants have been awarded to our fellows and multiple publications have appeared in peer-reviewed and non- peer-reviewed journals.
