Program's Mission:

Maintain a learning environment to enable our residents to achieve levels of training that exceed their own expectations.

The Einstein Healthcare Network Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program is a fully accredited, four-year residency training program that provides outstanding clinical training in the academic setting of a major tertiary care urban medical center. With the addition of our Montgomery campus (EMCM) which opened in September of 2012, our network allows our residents the opportunity to train in both an urban and suburban setting. The exposure to the practice of medicine in the urban and suburban settings gives our residents experience in dealing with patients across a diverse socioeconomic background with a wide variety of medical and social issues affecting their care.

In 2011 our program received a 5-year accreditation from the ACGME. In 2012, we were granted approval from the ACGME to increase our resident complement to five residents per year.

Between our different campuses we perform over 4000 deliveries, 1,900 major and 2,100 minor gynecologic surgical procedures, and care for 5000 visits to the MFM antepartum testing unit. Many Ob-Gyn programs have similar numbers; however, we stress and insure that all patients are teaching cases.

In order to provide our residents with exceptional specialty rotations we have long-term relationships with Abington Reproductive Medicine and The Fox Chase Cancer Center. Both Fox Chase and Abington have joined the staff at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery. This commitment to Einstein exemplifies the strong relationship that we have built over the past 10 years. Einstein Medical Center Montgomery also features urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery services.

Our faculty includes specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, urologic-gynecology abd advanced pelvic surgery, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, and general obstetrician-gynecologists. The ancillary staff include ten nurse practitioners, two physician assistants, and one nurse midwife at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, and 4 nurse midwives at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery.

The Lifter Building is home to the almost all of our services. The first floors consist of the antenatal testing unit, the maternal fetal medicine offices, the labor and delivery suite our conference room, and our educational program offices. The second floor houses the neonatal intensive care unit and our administrative offices. The third and fourth floor is our post-partum unit and our antenatal beds with access to fetal monitoring.

Our robotic surgeons enjoy the use of the DaVinci system at Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park hospital, located seven miles from the main campus, as well as robotic surgery at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery. We initiate our residents' minimally-invasive surgical training through both basic simulation as well as protected time in our on-campus simulation center which houses two Lap-Sim laparoscopic trainers.

Graduates of our program move into specialist training as well as general practice and enjoy high success on board certification examinations.

Our graduates have become very successful generalists in their local communities or have continued their academic career in fellowship training. In the past ten years, we have placed seventeen graduates into fellowship training. An interesting note is that two fellows have chosen to return to Einstein to practice and train our residents. This is a true testament to our program!

Our research concentrates on clinical research, resident training, improvements in the quality of care, and on surgical training. We present annually at national meetings and have published our work in major peer-reviewed journals.
