Einstein Healthcare Network's Emergency Department is dedicated to patient care. Our priority is to provide caring, accurate, and rapid service. Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia sees an average of 260 people a day, and we've learned a few things seeing as many patients as we do, namely:
- Managing the flow of patients in Emergency Departments is critical.
- Not every person coming into our Emergency Departments requires a bed. If you have a broken finger, for example, you'll get the same world-class treatment while sitting in a comfortable recliner.
- People appreciate being seen by a provider as soon as possible.
Split-Flow Method: Einstein’s Emergency Services use the split-flow method, which provides neater, brighter treatment spaces, and allows patients to be seen, assessed and treated quickly, eliminating lengthy wait times. When you come to Einstein’s Emergency Department, you’ll be greeted at the front desk by a check-in, or pivot nurse. Depending on the nature of your visit, you’ll be directed to different areas of the Emergency Department. In fact, Einstein’s assessment doctors can even begin care right in the waiting room.
Regardless of where you’re placed, you will be seen by both nurses and emergency physicians and or advanced practice clinicians (PA/NP):
Rapid Assessment Area: Einstein provides a rapid assessment area where a provider will examine you and determine next steps or order tests. After your testing, you may wait for your results seated in a comfortable recliner.
Observation Unit: Patients who are too sick to be released after ER treatment, but not necessarily sick enough to be admitted to the hospital (like those with asthma or those experiencing dehydration) will be observed in a comfortable environment and given minor treatment until a decision to either release or admit can be made.
Exam Rooms: The split-flow procedures allow faster access to private exam rooms for those who require immediate critical medical intervention.
