Programs & Services

Hospice care is a philosophy of respect and caring for the entire family during a difficult time while helping patients live out the remaining months of their lives in comfort, dignity and peace.

Einstein Montgomery Hospice is a patient-centered program providing coordinated care for individuals with a life expectancy of six months or less who are no longer pursuing curative treatment. Diagnoses include:

  • Cancer
  • Advanced dementia
  • Failure to thrive
  • End stage cardiac, pulmonary, renal or neurological illness
  • Other life-threatening diseases

Starting Hospice

Hospice care should start when further curative treatments are no longer recommended or desired. The sooner we start our care, the more effectively we can support and enhance the quality of life for both you and your family.

Hospice care can be provided in your home, the hospital, assisted living or care facility.

Our staff will work in conjunction with your physician to monitor your treatment. Members of our hospice team include:

  • Medical director
  • Medical social workers
  • Certified home health aides
  • Registered nurses
  • Pastoral care coordinator
  • Bereavement counselors
  • Supportive therapists
  • Trained volunteers

We offer supportive services to meet the varied and changing physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of you and your family, including:

  • 24-hour a day on-call coverage to answer questions, discuss concerns and visit when needed
  • Intermittent visits by the hospice team
  • Regular follow-ups between the hospice team and your primary care physician
  • Assistance with personal care, such as bathing, changing bed linens and helping with light household chores, provided by certified home health aides
  • Expertise in pain and symptom management
  • Instruction for you and your caregivers to understand the progression of the illness and management of care from our registered nurses
  • Counseling and emotional support for the stress caused by a serious illness, including help from our social workers with:
  • Assisting with financial concerns, insurance and legal documents, such as power of attorney, living wills and end of life instructions
  • Connecting the family with community resources or facilities
  • Bereavement support for your caregivers throughout the following year following the loss of a loved one, including:
  • Individual contacts
  • Bereavement support groups which are open to the community
  • Spring and fall memorial services
  • Supportive phone calls
  • Assistance and support from trained and supervised volunteers who help with activities of daily living and handle other practical concerns
  • Durable medical equipment and supplies ordered by hospice and billed through your insurance
  • Spiritual support for you and your family from our Pastoral Care Coordinator who can connect you with your own faith community
  • Medications that relate to a terminal diagnosis
  • Short-term respite care for caregivers
  • Speech, occupational and physical therapy
  • Nutritional counseling if needed
  • Complementary therapies, such as pet therapy, music enhancement, massage therapy and Reiki hands-on healing techniques

Join the dedicated team of caring persons serving patients and families facing terminal illness by becoming a hospice volunteer. Volunteers help people face the end of life by providing companionship, caregiver respite, bereavement support, complimentary therapies and more.

Volunteers have flexible visit schedules and see patients in their geographical area. Volunteers are required to complete 15 hours of training, which is offered throughout the year.
