Einstein Healthcare Network Designated Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology

Dec 15 2022

PHILADELPHIA, December 15, 2022 -- Einstein Healthcare Network, now part of Jefferson Health, has been designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence® (DICOE) by the American College of Radiology's (ACR) Commission on Quality and Safety. Einstein is the first facility in Philadelphia to earn this distinction which applies to all Einstein locations that provide radiology services. Only 4.3 percent of the thousands of medical facilities across the country that are accredited by the ACR in the modalities they provide earn designation as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, and Einstein is among them.

The DICOE program is an achievement that extends far beyond accreditation to recognize best-quality imaging practices and diagnostic care. This includes a comprehensive assessment of the entire medical imaging enterprise, including structure and outcomes. The DICOE designation recognizes excellence at multiple levels - including the professional staff, the technology and the policies and procedures the organization follows - and superior patient care.

"This designation is a testament to the hard work and dedication to high quality patient care on the part of the entire Radiology Department," says Ryan K. Lee, MD, MBA, Chair of the Department of Radiology for Einstein Healthcare Network. "In particular, I want to acknowledge Radiology Supervisor Anthony Penta, for his leadership in preparing the Department for the American College of Radiology surveyors' rigorous evaluation," Dr. Lee adds.

In order to receive this elite distinction, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in all modalities they provide, and in which the ACR offers an accreditation program, including in Computed Tomography (CT Scan), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), ultrasound, mammography, among others. The ACR's Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence designation is for three years and then Einstein will re-apply.
