Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Einstein Healthcare Network’s Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) at both Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia and Montgomery provide excellent care for even the smallest of babies with the most complicated health issues.
Designated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia and Montgomery are recognized as Level III NICUs – meaning we’re capable of providing acute care for the smallest newborns with the most complex symptoms.
Our NICUs, staffed round-the-clock by expert neonatologists, regularly cares for babies with conditions resulting from:
- Prematurity
- Congenital malformation
- Respiratory distress
- Infection
- Neurologic and metabolic disorders
- Complications stemming from pregnancy, labor or delivery
Our staff cares for both babies and their families. Our NICU teams encourage parents to hold their baby with skin-to-skin contact. This contact has been shown to help regulate breathing and heart rates, maintain body warmth, promote better sleep, and assist with weight gain.
In addition to our focus on compassion and the family, we treat our NICU patients with the latest state-of-the art technology to provide the best outcomes.
We proudly note that in recent years we've been able to reduce the number of babies requiring NICU services from 15% to 12%. The reduction is due to a concentrated effort to improve diagnostics, counseling and medical services to mothers-to-be. We will work tirelessly to reduce this number even more.
