When to Visit an OB/GYN Specialist
Beginning in her teens, every woman should receive medical care from a gynecologist, who is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of problems of the female reproductive organs. Throughout her life the level of care she requires may vary from the routine to the complex. Most of the time, a woman may only need to visit her physician for a yearly exam. At other times, she may need to visit more often if a problem develops. Einstein Healthcare Network offers the care women need through every stage of their lives.
A woman who plans to become pregnant or who already is pregnant should be under the care of a gynecologist who is also an obstetrician (often referred to as an ob/gyn). An obstetrician has the proper training, licensing and insurance to deliver babies. This physician also provides prenatal care to the mother-to-be to help ensure that the baby and the mother are healthy during the pregnancy and to offer postpartum care after the baby is born.
